A search of Cortland County newspapers of 1865 shows that on July 21, 1865, the Homer Monitors defeated the Marathons 72-4 at the Monitors Grounds in a game lasting two hours and 15 minutes. The Monitors Grounds was located behind Cortland Academy in the Homer Village Green.
The Monitor BBC of Homer played against the Central City BBC of Syracuse at the Cortland County Fair Grounds, losing 27-23.
The Homer Monitors lost to the Syracuse Central Cities 29-21 on September 2, 1865, at Armory Park in Syracuse.
Homer NY is 30 miles south of Syracuse, and Cortland is about 3 miles south of Homer. Homer's current population is about 3300.
