The “Zeb Vance” club of Albemarle played the Gold Hill club on April 29, 1876. The Vance club lost bigtime, and soon disbanded. Salisbury Carolina Watchman, May 4, May 11, May 18, 1876.

Albemarle NC (1890 pop. about 250) is about 40 miles NE of Charlotte NC. Gold Hill NC (pop. unknown)is about 45 miles NE of Charlotte and about 15 miles NW of Albemarle.
