The Charleston News & Courier, July 31, 1874, reported that Abbeville played Cokesbury on the 23rd at Cokesbury. Abbeville led 43 to 33 after 8 innings, when (for a reason unnamed) Cokesbury quit. “South Carolina…Elberton and Abbeville will play a match base ball bout next Friday.” Augusta Chronicle, June 12, 1877.

Abbeville SC (1880 pop. about 1,500) is about 30 miles SW of Greenville SC. Elberton GA (current pop. about 4750)is about 30 miles W of Abbevile.
