The Brenham Weekly Banner, August 1, 1879 says the Brenham Athletic went to Independence and were beaten 61 to 28. Allegedly, baseball was played by Baylor University students in 1873.

Brenham TX is about 70 miles NW of Houston. Independence TX is about 10 miles N of Brenham and 75 miles NW of Houston.
