The Abilene/Taylor County News, May 1, 1885, mentions an Abilene Base Ball Club. The Dallas Morning News, Sept. 20, 1886, under the headline "The Base Ball Game," reports that an Abilene picked nine played in East Dallas recently.

Abilene Texas was established in 1881.
