William W. Hertsill diary, published under the title "1491 Days in the Confederate army..." December 1861 (Texas?): "There is nothing unusual transpiring in Camp. The boys are passing the time playing Town-Ball."

January 1862 (Texas?): "All rocking along finely, Boys playing Town-Ball" The unit (2nd TX Cavalry) was stationed in Texas at the time, probably in either Camp Wood, Uvalde County, or Camp Hudson, Val Verde County.
