Nickname Sherman Base Ball Club

Vancouver Register, July 20, 1867. A single note appears in a column next to a further review of the game between Vancouver's Occidental Base Ball Club and the Clackamas Base Ball Club.

"The Sherman Base Ball Club are making rapid improvement in their play."

There were previous notes posted in both the June 1 and June 8 editions of the paper indicating this team was forming. These indicate the Sherman club is formed of mainly officers from the military post, Fort Vancouver. In addition, an article on July 20 mentions the Occidental club is composed with lots of members of the Quartermasters Department.
