Weekly Sumter Republican Aug. 11, 1882: “last Friday” the Americus Base Ball Club was defeated by the Smithville Base Ball Club 32-14 at Smithville.

Smithville GA (pop. about 800) is about 140 miles S of Atlanta and 60 miles SE of Columbus.
