The Elkhart Weekly Review, Aug. 19, 1865: "The Base Ball Match. The match game between the Laporte Base Ball Club, and the Star of the West, of Elkhart, came off on Thursday last [the 17th]" at Elkhart. Laporte won 98-28 in nine innings.
Laporte IN (1860 pop. about 5,000; 1870 pop. about 6,500) is about 35 miles E of Gary and near Lake Michigan.
