L. M. Sutter, "New Mexico Baseball. Miners, Outlaws, Indians and Isotopes, 1880 to the Present" traces NM baseball from Santa Fe in 1880. The Sante Fe Daily New Mexican, April 2, 1880 reports that:"The Santa Fe Base-ball Club, and those who take an interest in and wish to encourage this game, will hold a meeting in the Parlor Restaurant at 8:30 sharp."
Santa Fe's population in 1880 was about 6600.
