  • The Midwest League played a 126 game, split-season schedule which began on April 29 and ended on August 30. The first half ended on July 1.
    • The split season was voted on by league directors (the vote was 5-3) in late June and announced on June 30. Paris--eventual 1956 season wins leader and playoff champion--protested the late change in a public letter[1].
  • No All-Star game was played.
  • A two round playoff series was played, with Paris crowned champion. The first round was best-of-three; the championship round was best-of-five.
  • Total 1956 attendance: 453,688.
